Bagongshan Mountain is a famous historic and cultural mountain, which is composed of more than forty mountain peaks and cliffs range upon range, covering an area of more than two hundred square kilometers. It has graceful sceneries and beautiful landscapes. There are such moving stories, myths and legends as “when one man finds the way, his chickens and dogs ascend to heaven (When a man is promoted to a position of authority, all his friends and relatives benefit.)” and “to be scared by the whistle of the wind and the cry of the cranes, fearing ambush at every tree and tuft of grass (to be seized with imaginary fears)”, which make the Bagongshan Mountain stamp its name on the page of history and establish a reputation at home and abroad, and impart unlimited verve to the moutain. The Bagongshan Bean Curd, which originated with Liu An, King of Huainan of the Han Dynasty, enjoys a greater reputation in the world and brings bliss to the common people.
Bagongshan Mountain is also a sacred place for life on the earth. In 1978, fossil specimens of the Cambrian System of the Paleozoic such as pogonophora, Annelida and trilobite were discovered in the Bagongshan area in Huainan. Their life forms are determined to originate from 8400 million years ago. Authorities in archaeology and palaeontology from foreign nations name it fossil “Huainan Insect”. It is also reputed as origin of life on “blue planet” by the international geological field. In 2000, an ape fossil was also found in the Bagongshan Mountain more than three million years removed from modern times, which is the earliest ape fossil that have been found so far in our country.
The Bagongshan Scenic Area takes the ecological and leisure tourism as the theme, and explores and builds such scenic spots as the palace of King of Huainan of the Han Dynasty, Sheng Xian Platform, Baita (White Tower) Temple, White Tower, Qingliangxuan Hall, Stone Forest and Wangqing Valley, etc, according to the unique historical culture and natural landscapes. It is a good place for leisure, vacation, religious pilgrimage, sightseeing, study and tourism.
