Baiyunguan, or the White Cloud Taoist Temple, is situated near Fuxinmen, southwest of Beijing . For hundreds of years the temple has been hosting the yearly temple fairs during the Spring Festivals, which is noted as the oldest temple fair and having the most numerous pilgrims in Beijing.

Two activities in this temple always attract lots of people: touching the stone monkey and shooting the coin at Wofeng Bridge. Under the archway behind the temple gate stands a stone monkey. People believe that a stroke at the monkey will bring longevity, wealth and ward off evil, so they strive to touch the stone monkey. Below the Wofeng Bridge there is a big coin with a hole through its middle and four Chinese characters on the face that reads Great fortunes comes when the bell rings. It is heard that if one can shoot the big coin with a real coin, one’s dream will come true. Thanks to these wide spread beliefs that there are always long queue before the stone monkey and big coin during the temple fair.

Gourmets also love the temple fair for they can try almost all the traditional local food here. Furthermore, in recent year many exhibitions for traditional folk arts and folk painting are held to make the fair temple a more interesting place to go in the cold winter.
