Beijing International Marathon, organized by Chinese Athletics Association, is the highest-level Marathon with a long history in China. It was held in 1981 for the first time and held in October every year in Beijing which is the capital city of China ever since. Beijing International Marathon has developed into an influential traditional international event in the world and ranked as one of the world’s top ten marathons. Due to the spacious course, the mild climate during the competition, the high-level organization and competition, the friendly residents in Beijing and the increasing scale year by year, Beijing International Marathon has attracted an increasing number of top-ranking athletes, marathon elites and lovers from all over the world. In the year 2010, Beijing International Marathon has been successfully held for 30 sessions.

Beijing International Marathon is held on the third Sunday of every October in Beijing when the weather is the most comfortable and it’s the best season for tourism and a large number of tourists at home and abroad will travel to Beijing and spend their holidays in Beijing. Besides, Beijing International Marathon is quite well-known and popular among Beijing residents and there are nearly two million spectators from many other countries shout with excitement during the competition.

In order to expand the influence of Beijing International Marathon and provide more opportunities for marathon lovers, since 1998, the organizer has decided that the whole Beijing International Marathon would last for five hours, including the male and female marathons, half marathon, 10 kilometers marathon and mini marathon, which can not only provide an opportunity for people to strengthen bodies and improve health, but also enable the world to learn more about Beijing.
