The fair at the Dongyue Temple ( Beijing Folklore Museum) is among the most ancient in Beijing whose history dated back to the Yaun Dynasty and culmination was in the following Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Dongyue temple fare is particularly known for its comprehensive range of folk customs and activities.
Praying for good fortune is the theme of the Dongyue Temple Fair. During the fair, one see a variety of ornaments inside and outside the temple that carry the Chinese Character "福" (good fortune or blessing): "福"cloth, "福" card, "福" plate "福" tree among others. Many people come to the temple and “invite” a card of “福” home.
