Chenzhou Pubs & Bars
Although a small city, there are places to go and have a good time at night.
Firstly, opposite Walking Street in downtown Chenzhou, you can find Soho bar. This famous brand of clubs is also in Chenzhou and offers a similar experience to elsewhere. It has 2 floors and a live singer at weekends. Beer deals start from 150 Yuan for 6 bottles.
Across the street from Soho is Sam's bar. This small bar occasionally has quiet acoustic music every night and makes a refreshing change from noisy KTV bars in China, until the later hours that is. The acoustic music kicks off at 9.30 nightly and the beer starts from 27 a bottle, with discounts available if you buy in bulk. They have an electronic dart board. The manager seems to have a drinking problem.
Another bar in Chenzhou is 6698 bar. If you can persuade them to give you a foriegn experts card, you'll get two free beers everytime you go there. The bar is big and plays plenty of foreign music. Although it's never busy, there's normally a small crowd in there. It has a pool table, and a range of cigarettes to buy. They also sell Tiger and Heineken, although both taste watered down. They have pole dancers (male and female) some nights as well as live singers and they recently added a air hockey table and foozball table. Haggle for 12 beers for 200.
A very new and plush bar opened in November 2011 in Chenzhou city called Waitin Space. From the grimy polluted outside of Chenzhou to the sparkling white interior of this beautiful bar is quite a shock. The bar owner lived in Singapore and speaks good English and you can tell that he frequented Singapore bars based on the layout of his bar. They have live saxophone music and the ambience is very impressive indeed. Of course, you pay for the quality, with beer starting from 35 yuan a bottle, but it is defintely worth it if you are feeling flush.
Just around the corner from Waitin Space is Happy Imperial Music Club. This small /bar/club plays very loud DJ-based music, but the tunes themselves aren't offensive and the bar has a good atmosphere. They have a pool table upstairs and Snow beer in the fridges. It can be a good place to go for a drunkern night and you'll normally find vomit in the toilets.
Two doors down from Happy Imperial you can find a small, quiet bar called Bar wo de Tata which has a nice atmosphere and friendly management. It's a nice place to come for a cheap, quiet drink in the city before moving on elsewhere. It opens from 2pm until midnight and the bar also sells some products which children and women would enjoy, such as jewellery and toys. A good place to take a date.
Yeyan bar can be found down the smaller walking street near the first walking street. Yeyan is an excellent place to come early evening time. It opens at 5pm but normally doesn't see customers until after 7pm, meaning the quiet jazz can really be enjoyed. Shisha pipes and a large range of cocktails and shots are available here. Later at night they turn on the KTV, but even then the volume is still nice and the atmosphere pleasing. The manager can speak good enough english.
88 bar is another big chain to have made it to Chenzhou. It is the luxury place for the rich and beautiful to visit and they pay enough for their drinks. A good place to go for the experience and it would help if you can find a table of rich people willing to give you drinks. They seem to employ some Eastern-European dancers some nights of the week and the bar is always very busy.
It will take some finding, but there is a bar called California which I have only visited twice and it pretty average.
Away from the city, there can be a few bars found opposite Xiangnan University.
MT bar is probably the best of these. Although the KTV can be deafeningly loud at times and some of the locals not too pleased to see foreigners, the bar manager Wang Jing is friendly and the beer is cheap, at 15 yuan for a pitcher. The pool table is there, although not very good quality and some good times can be had there if you get there on the right day.
Under MT bar is Mo fei. A similar deal as MT can be found, with cheap beer, loud music and a pool table. No pitchers here though, so you will be drinking 12 yuan bottles.
The university itself has a bar, but it's always dead and there's really no reason to pay it a visit.
A new bar called Avril Lavigne opened recently which is mostly a KTV place but they have a small bar with 3 seats so technically should be included.
Finally, there is Cool Boy bar. It's tiny and incredibly loud so only come here if you really want to punish your eardrums.
Message my account on here for directions to any of these bars.
