Sichuan Airlines

Sichuan Airlines is an airline offering regional flights throughout China. It is one of the minor airlines in the country, operating only scheduled domestic flights out of Chengdu and Chongqing where its hubs are located. However, it is currently in expansion and has in fact just launched its first long-haul overseas flight.

Sichuan Airlines was established back in September 1986, but its operations began only in July 1988. The first flights flew only between Chengdu and Wanzhou. Eventually it was reorganized; the provincial government of Sichuan now owns majority of the shares for the airline, but some shares are also owned by China Southern Airlines, Shandong Airlines, and Shanghai Airlines, among others.

Its slogan is “Safety is Our Priority” and the airlines strongly invests in ensuring the safety of passengers. It has successfully gained a reputation of reliability in the regional air travel industry in China.

Luggage Allowance

Passengers of Sichuan Airlines will each be entitled to a free baggage allowance for both carry on and checked luggage. If passengers exceed the allowance, they will have to pay for the excess in terms of weight.

Carry-on luggage

Passengers are allowed to bring one piece of luggage into the aircraft when flying with Sichuan Airlines. The luggage should meet both weight and size limits; in terms of size, the general guide is that the luggage should fit into the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of the passenger. If you want to be sure, however, your carry-on luggage should not weigh more than 10 kg and should not be bigger than this size: 20x40x55cm.

Checked luggage

Passengers are provided free allowance for checked baggage; this is measured by weight. Usually, the limit is 20 kg maximum. Since Sichuan Airlines flies mostly to domestic routes, the weight limits are usually the same for all flights. They may vary, however, for the Sichuan Airline route going to Vancouver. The rate for excess baggage is 1.5% of the price per kg.

In-Flight Food

Sichuan Airlines serves snacks and beverages on most of its flights. Based on reviews, Sichuan Airlines has a good reputation for serving good food. Special meals may be made available upon request.

Special Services

Sichuan Airlines offers special services to passengers who may need assistance, such as pregnant women or the elderly.

Wheelchair service

A wheelchair service is available for the elderly or persons with disabilities. This service should be requested for prior to flight departure.

Pregnant service

As per international ruling, pregnant women over their 36th week of pregnancy will not be allowed to fly on any Sichuan Airlines flight. Those on the 32nd to 35th weeks will be allowed, but will be required to present a recent health certificate, preferably one issued within 72 hours prior to departure. Those who are under their 32nd week of pregnancy can fly like an ordinary passenger.

Frequent Flyer Program

Sichuan Airlines’ frequent flyer program is the Golden Panda Club. Flyers can earn miles with every Sichuan Airlines flight they buy once they enroll into the club. Once there is enough, members can redeem their miles and get discounts on flights or even use their miles to cover their flights.
