Daily Itinerary

Day 1 > Beijing Arrival

  • Activities: Airport pick-up and private transfer to hotel
  • Hotel: Dongfang Hotel Beijing 3-star hotel (or equivalent standard)
  • Meals: None

Your China tour begins in the city of Beijing. Upon arrival, your private Beijing tour guide will escort you to your hotel. Check in and recover from jet-lag.

  • Free night time idea: watch the acrobatics show in Chaoyang Theater. You can book tickets with the help of your guide.

Day 2 > Ancient Beijing Highlights

  • Activities: Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, Hutongs, Lama Temple and Pipe Street
  • Hotel: Dongfang Hotel Beijing 3-star hotel (or equivalent standard)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Chinese lunch at local restaurant

Your China tour will start with visiting ancient Beijing.

In the morning, visit Tian'anmen Square and then the Forbidden City. Imagine the Ming and Qing emperors dispensing justice within these walls. You will be impressed by the scale and design of the buildings and grounds.

In the afternoon, hop on a rickshaw and see the traditional hutongs where Beijing people still live. Also visit a local family and discover the different thresholds of the courtyards. Later, visit Lama Temple which used to be Prince Gong's mansion. Then walk through Pipe Street (Yandaixiejie).

You will also have a chance to learn how to spot fake pearls at a time-honored pearl store.

Day 3 > Badaling Great Wall Hiking with Return Cable Cars

  • Activities: Bird's Nest, Water Cube, Badaling Great Wall, Changling Tomb and Sacred Way

  • Meals: Breakfast, Chinese lunch at local restaurant

The Bird's Nest and the Water Cube are two iconic Beijing Olympic Stadiums. Before driving to the Great Wall, see these icons.

After about 1.5 hours’ drive, you will arrive at the Badaling Great Wall. Take a cable car up to get views of the natural setting around. If you want, you can walk up. Then enjoy an easy hike. Your guide will walk you through the history of the Wall.

Pay a visit to the Ming Tombs. The Sacred Way is an attractive tree-lined path leading to the Ming Tombs, bordered by 12 sets of animal and human statues. Changling tomb, built in 1413, belongs to emperor Yongle, the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty. There are color paintings on the ceiling and golden bricks on the ground, which add to the magnificent atmosphere.

Dinner Idea

Have a taste of roast duck in Quanjude Restaurant, the most famous Peking roast duck restaurant. Feel free to ask for other dinner ideas from your guide.

Day 4 > Beijing Discovery and Soft Sleeper Train to Xi’an

  • Activities: Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven and Beijing Zoo

So many of Beijing’s attractions are historical buildings built for a purpose. The Temple of Heaven was to be used by the emperor in the prosecution of his duty to serve the people and ensure proper harvests and prosperity. Be fascinated by the vibrant colors and simple beauty of the architecture.

Visit the Summer Palace. This is the largest and best-preserved imperial garden in China, and also a World Heritage Site.

Beijing Zoo was originally named Ten Thousand Animal Garden, ?built in 1908. It mainly exhibits wild and rare animals native to ?China, such as the panda. Have a look at some cute pandas without going to Chengdu, the hometown of pandas.

Private and Efficient Transfer to the Train Station

You will be transferred to the train station for your departure to Xi'an.

Good to Know

A soft sleeper train to Xi'an will give you a new experience ?and save some money. Buy some snacks and drinks for the ride.

Day 5 > Experience Ancient Xi’an

  • Activities: The Terracotta Warriors and Horses and the City Wall
  • Hotel: Xian Skytel Hotel3-star hotel (or equivalent standard)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Chinese lunch at local restaurant

Your guide will be waiting for you at the exit. The arrival time in Xi’an is about 8 am. We arrange breakfast for you. Then, you will visit a wonder of ancient China: the Terracotta Warriors and Horses, a wonderful site for learning about the first emperor of China and his never-say-die ambition for immortality. Have lunch before a stop at a handicraft center.

In the afternoon, pay a visit to the Ancient City Wall, which encircles the city.

Good to Know

In the evening, the city is lighted, and this is the best time to see the Bell Tower and Drum Tower.

Day 6 > Explore Chinese History and Fly to Guilin

  • Activities: Shaanxi History Museum, Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Muslim Quarter
  • Hotel: Guilin Park Hotel3-star hotel (or equivalent standard)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Chinese lunch at local restaurant

In the morning, visit the Shaanxi History Museum, one of the best places for brushing up on Chinese history.

Xi'an is important in China's Buddhist culture, and you will climb the famous Big Wild Goose Pagoda, with Chinese-style architecture combined with Buddhist beliefs. Then walk among the locals at the Muslim Quarter.

Private Transfer to Airport for the Flight to Guilin

After the tour, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Guilin. Upon arrival, your guide will pick you up and escort you directly to your hotel.

Free Time Ideas

  • Go for a food hunt along Shangshui Food Street in downtown Guilin.
  • Take a relaxing stroll ?along Binjiang Road beside the Li River.

Day 7 > Guilin Highlights

  • Activities: Reed Flute Cave, Elephant Trunk Hill, Fubo Hill

Guilin is famous for karst landscape which has formed many caves. Reed Flute Cave is perhaps the most beautiful, cave, giving a sense of Guilin's charm. Later, visit Elephant Trunk Hill, iconic in Guilin.

After lunch at McFound’s Restaurant, you will travel to Fubo Hill in Guilin. This stands submerged in the water and ?creates magnificent whirlpools in the Li River.

Evening Free-time Idea

At night, Guilin turns on the lights. It’s well worth the boat ride to see Guilin from the Li River at night.

Day 8 > Fabulous Li River Cruise

  • Activities: Li River Cruise and Taiji Experience
  • Hotel: Yangshuo Aiyuan Hotel3-star hotel (or equivalent standard)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Chinese lunch at local restaurant

Take a morning cruise to Yangshuo. The views are simply spectacular and they change as you move along the river. They feature on the 20 RMB note, but now you will see them in real life. Have lunch on the boat. Stay on the top deck to enjoy the scenery. After about 4 hours’ cruise, you will arrive in Yangshuo at 2pm.

Later, experience taiji (or t’ai chi ch’uan), an internal martial art system emphasizing the development and control of chi (the energy of consciousness) within the body. You will be able to practice taiji in a park with a mountain backdrop. Your teacher will share some basic skills as an introduction to the art.

Good to Know

  • We will arrange a new cruise boat for you. New seats are wider and better than the old ones.
  • The boat is three-stories with a deck.
  • Bamboo rafts are also a popular way of enjoying the Li River.
  • Don’t worry about your luggage. We will transfer it for you to your Yangshuo Hotel.

Evening Free-time Idea

Visit West Street in Yangshuo! You won't be bored, with bars, cafes, shops and clubs. Westerners like the street. English is spoken there.

Day 9 > Bike Around Beautiful Yangshuo and Fly to Shanghai

  • Activities: Yangshuo countryside bike experience and flight to Shanghai

After lunch, your tour guide will take you to Guilin airport for the flight to Shanghai.

The commercial centers of Nanjing Road and People’s Square cater for basically all you need: dining, touring, entertainment and shopping.

Day 10 > Shanghai Highlights

  • Activities: Oriental Pearl TV Tower (including Shanghai History Museum), The Bund, Yuyuan Garden, Tianzi Fang, the Former French Concession Region
  • Hotel: Kingstown Hotel Plaza Shanghai3-star hotel (or equivalent standard)

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is Shanghai's pride, iconic in the city. You will climb to the top, obtaining a panoramic view of Huangpu River. Visit Shanghai History Museum, located inside the tower, with a great collection of waxworks detailing the history of Shanghai. Then visit the Bund to see European style buildings and skyscrapers.

After lunch at local restaurant, see Shanghai's grace from another angle by visiting more traditional places. First, see the classical Chinese Yuyuan Garden. Later, walk around the artful maze of Tianzifang and into the Former French Concession Region to experience Chinese petty bourgeoisie and visit a silk store.
