Day by Day Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Shanghai Arrival (Flight not Included)

Destinations & activities: Hotel - airport transfer

Today you will land in Shanghai airport, where your Shanghai tour guide picks you up. The ride to hotel for check-in comes with a briefing about Shanghai as well as your China tour.

After check-in, have some free time getting to know the city.


- Smart Tips:

  • One of the best ways to get a glance at Shanghai is taking a night cruise on the Huangpu River. Your Shanghai tour guide can book the ticket for you.

    Day 2


    The Bund

    Destinations & activities: Train station - hotel transfer, The Bund, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai History Museum, Former French Concession and a silk store

    Arrive in Shanghai in the morning, your Shanghai tour guide will pick you up and transfer you to hotel for check-in. You will have some simple breakfast.

    Today's tour aims at getting to know Shanghai from its past and present. Firstly, you will walk along The Bund and take a ferry crossing the Huangpu River. Later, you will visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Shanghai History Museum. Have lunch in a traditional Shanghai restaurant.

    The Former French Concession holds the memories of yesterdays and is meant to offer you serendipitous discoveries. A silk store will be our last stop for today.

  • ERA Time Acrobatic Show is a wonderful way to kill the night.
  • Jimi Kee Noodles in Shaanxi Nan Lu, gives you a flavor of Hong Kong even when you are wandering in Shanghai.

    Day 3

    Shanghai to Suzhou and back

    Destinations & activities: Land transfer, Humble Administrator's Garden, rickshaw ride in Suzhou, Panmen Gate and an embroidery institute

    This morning, your Shanghai tour guide will escort you to Suzhou. The ride takes about 1 hour.

    As we arrive in Suzhou, one of the most beautiful Suzhou-style gardens will open up to you: Humble Administrator's Garden. The old garden dates back to the 16th century and now holds flower and bonsai exhibitions occasionally. Have lunch in a local restaurant.

    After lunch, a rickshaw ride through the city would be quite relaxing. Later, get to the Panmen Gate, which is not literally a gate but more of a a small fortress that was used to seal off the canel to control the boats entering the city.

    Back in Shanghai, you already knew how the silk is processed. Now at an embroidery institute in Suzhou, you can see artists hand-stitching beautiful art works.

    At the evening, you will be back to Shanghai.

    Day 4

    Shanghai to Yichang (Flight No.TBA)

    Destinations & activities: Free time in Shanghai, airport - hotel transfer, transfer to the pier

    This morning, you will have some free time in Shanghai. We have listed out something you might be interested. Plan your free time wisely.

    When you get to Yichang, you will get taken to the pier in time for the Yangtze River Cruise. Enjoy your night!


    - Smart Tips:

  • Outside Shanghai, there is a lovely small old town worthy a check out: Zhujiajiao Ancient Town.
  • City God Temple near the Yuyuan Garden, claimed to be "Sights of old China in the middle of modern Shanghai".
  • Carving for snacks? Looking for place to dine? You can find Din Tai Fung Restaurant, featured as "Authentic Culture of Shanghai" by Trip Advisor, both near the Yuyuan Garden and Xintiandi.

    Day 5

    Yangtze River Cruise

    Getting deep inside the gorges

    Destinations & activities: Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, Shennong Stream, crew performance

    On your spectacular Yangtze River cruise today, the first gorge of the day will be Qutang Gorge and then later pass through Wu Gorge. After lunch, you will have the chance to go on land to visit Shennong Stream, a tributary of the Yangtze River. It is a dramatic piece of natural beauty with water rushing past karst caves, vertical cliffs, numerous waterfalls, three-colored springs, an ancient plank path, and much more. As well, there is an option to visit the White Emperor City, also known as Baidi city (price not included).

    The crew will later put on a performance for your entertainment, and the vessel will sail through the 5-step ship locks, bringing you back to Yangtze.

    White Emperor City is an option upon your request. Please inform the crew if you'd visit it. Cost will be on your own.

    Day 6

    Yangtze River Cruise

    Fengdu Chost City is for brave people.

    Destinations & activities: Shore excursion to Shibaozhai; Fengdu Ghost City (Optional upon request)

    Waking up in the wave sound of the Yangtze River, you will embrace the morning of nature. Today you will take a short visit to Shibaozhai. Shibaozhai, literally meaning Stone Treasure Fortress, and its riverside location is what allows the historic hill site much of its beauty. The sheer vertical cliffs below it stand more than 56 meters tall, thus creating much curiosity over the centuries. The red pavilion found there was first built in 1750 during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) and has since been restored. Inside, visitors can see many interesting artifacts since each of the 12 floors is dedicated to a famous general from the Three Kingdoms Period (220-265), a local scholar, or a known Chinese poet.

    Fengdu Ghost City is not included in our itinerary, but it's available to book after you get on the cruise. Cost will be your own exspense.

    Day 7

    Carrying a dreamy time, today you will continue to enjoy the Yangtze River Cruise with intoxicating views.


    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on the cruise

    Day 8

    Chongqing to Xi'an (Flight No.TBA)


    Destinations & activities: Pier transfer and transfer to the airport, Panda Room in Chongqing Zoo, Goose Neck Park and an art gallery

    The upstream Yangtze Rriver Cruise reaches the terminal destination: Chongqing. Your Chongqing tour guide will pick you up at the pier.

    You will visit the Panda Room in the Chongqing Zoo, where you can meet up the precious pandas. Later, have lunch in a traditional restaurant serving Sichuan cuisine.

    In the afternoon, visit Goose Neck Park, home to special plant species and you can get a bird's view of the entire city at the top of Liangjiang Pavilion. An art gallery will be our last stop in Chongqing.

    A flight will take you to Xi'an, a graceful city rich in history and culture. Check in upon arrival.

    Day 9

    Xi'an(By Train No.Z94)

    Destinations & activities: Terracotta Army, Fountain Square and an art center and hotel

    One of the most remarkable features of the famous Terracotta Army is that, each of the over-7,000 soliders comes in different sizes and styles, including beards, hairstyles and facial expressions. It is like they are still guarding the tomb of Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of China. After a couple of hours at this incredible site, you will stop by an art center.

    After lunch, you will be wandering freely on the Fountain Square, from where you can get a great full view of the famous Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

  • Get a great view of Xi'an city at the Ancient City Wall best time to visit is sunrise and sunset.

    Day 10

    Xi'an to Beijing (Flight No.TBA)

    Destinations & activities: Free time in Xi'an, hotel - airport transfer

    Today you will be free in this ancient yet lively city.

    Later today, you will take a flight to the capital of China: Beijing. Check in upon arrival.

  • For foodies, march to the Muslim Quarter for some halal food or snacks alike.
  • Reviewed as a "hidden gem". the Gao's Grand Courtyard hides behind the Muslim Quarter, inviting you for an insightful visit. Shadow Puppet Show (20CNY / Person) here is said to be one of the best in the country.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Chinese Lunch at Hantang Tianxia Dumpling Restaurant


    Day 11


    Take a rickshaw into the Hutong

    Destinations & activities: The Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, Hutong visit and a pearl store

    For many Beijingers, the Tian'anmen Square is where they start the day. This morning, you will pay a visit to this vast square. Later, go visit 4 major sites inside the Forbidden City, including the Palace of Heavenly Purity, Hall of Supreme Harmony, Hall of Mental Cultivation and Royal Garden.

    At noon, your Beijing tour guide will take your into a Beijing noodle house for lunch. Stop at a pearl store after lunch.

    A Hutong visit is essential to a China tour. Riding on a rickshaw, you will get deep into Beijingers' day-to-day life. Stop at local family for a couple of hours, have easy conversation over a cup of tea.

    Tonight, your Beijing tour guide will take you to an old Peking Duck restaurant for a real feast.

  • Kung Fu Show at Red Theatre creates a cinematic visual experience for you.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Chinese Lunch at Jing Mian Da Wang Restaurant and Peking Duck Dinner at Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant


    Day 12


    Mutianyu Great Wall
    Visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu Section

    Destinations & activities: The Great Wall at Mutianyu Section, Temple of Heaven and a cloisonné factory

    Slightly farther than Badaling Section, Mutianyu Section of the Great Wall is significantly less crowded. One can even see the desert of Mongolia in the distance during a clear day.

    At noon, a farm-house-style restaurant prepares a good meal for you. Later, pay a brief visit at a cloisonné factory to see how the clay turns into a bowl.

    Driving back downtown Beijing takes about 2 hours, relax en route. Later, visit the Temple of Heaven. Here, you will approach the beautiful Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests via the Danbi Bridge.

  • A foot massage or a body massage is needed if you want to relax after all the walking today. Ask your Beijing tour guide for direction.
  • You can get a nice insight of China's postmodern art at 798 Art Zone, where you can also find TimeoutBeijing's favorite art center Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art (UCCA).

    Today you will have a whole free day in Beijing. Refer to our suggested activities as follow.


    - Smart Tips:

  • Beijing Zoo is an all-time favorite for both kids and adults.
  • The Drum Tower still keeps drumming every hour from 9:30am to 4:30pm (except 12:30pm), 9:30am, 10:30am, 11:30am etc. Aside the drumming show, the tower offers great view of how everything in Beijing is aligned with the Forbidden City.
  • A boat trip on Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace is essential for a relaxing China holiday. Or a less-crowded choice, go to the Old Summer Palace near it.
