The Stone Forest, Green Lake Park

Destinations & activities: The Stone Forest, Green Lake Park

The Stone Forest (120 minutes): The Stone Forest is a breathtaking natural phenomena featuring unusually shaped karst landscapes, which were formed by the continuous movement of the Earth for millions of years.  Hidden away 90 kilometers to the southeast of Kunming, the forest is known for its spectacular scenery and for the unique folk customs of the Sani people, who still dwell there. The Sani culture can therefore be heavily felt there; while there, you can buy colorful embroidery and watch minority dances in the midst of a captivating natural environment.
Green Lake Park (60 minutes). The Green Lake Park is a beautiful park located in downtown Kunming. Its convenient location just opposite Yunnan University makes it one of the most easily accessible attractions in the city. Its centerpiece is definitely the Green Lake, which branches out into nine springs in the north. Due to this, the lake was also called ‘Nine Dragon Pond’ in olden times. While in the park, you can enjoy local Taiji, Majion, and operatic performances or simply take in the scenery and take a leisurely walk. If you visit in November and December, you might also catch huge flocks of gulls migrating towards the area from Siberia.
Chinese Restaurant of Stone Forest Ashima Hotel: Known for serving the best roast duck in Kunming, the in-house restaurant in the Stone Forest Ashima Hotel is very popular among tourists. Its convenient location near the entrance of the Stone Forest landscaped area also helps fill it with people looking for a meal after touring the Stone Forest.
