After being hit with severe cold weather and heavy snow over the last week, China is now facing continuing low temperatures and strong winds, especially in North China. What's more, the National Meteorological Administration of China is forecasting that almost all of Southern China will soon be covered by snow or rain, with some provinces expecting storms.

The bad weather has already blocked some sections of railways and highways in China, especially in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Province and Inner Mongolia. Tourists in China in this period are advised that the bad weather may affect their tours, to prepare enough warm clothes and to be aware of the current transport situation for their travel destinations.

January 5 is the beginning of “Lesser Cold (Xiao Han)” this year, one of the 24 solar terms in the traditional Chinese calendar, from which begins the coldest period of a year in China.
