Qingming Festival -- the Tomb Sweeping Day in China

Published by  ariel at 2010/4/5;

April 5th is Qingming Festival -- the Tomb Sweeping Day in China.

It is not only a traditional Chinese festival but also the most important day of sacrifice. It is a time to pay respect to ancestors and remember the deceased.

The Qingming Festival is one of the 24 seasonal division points in China, falling on April 4-6 each year. As the 24 seasonal division points objectively reflect the changes of the year round temperature, rainfall and phenology, working people in ancient times arrange the farming activities according to its change. General speaking, the temperature will rise up and rainfall will increase after the Qingming Festival.

On the other side, according to the customs, people offer food, drinks, fruits, paper money and other items to the cemetery, and sweep the tombs of the deceased. After the paper money incineration, they bow to worship and hope their ancestors bless them in healthy, job, study and wealth.
