The 19th Turpan Grape Festival on the Silk Road which is widely known by people at home and abroad is to start. It will last 11days from August 26 to September 5.

The 19th Turpan Grape Festival on the Silk Road is held in order to commemorate the 2100- year history of the Silk Road and it’s the only one of the 40 important local festivals that is approved by the State Council. Turpan Grape Festivals have become grand ceremonies for the people of all the ethnic groups in Xinjiang .

This 19th Turpan Grape Festival is on the subject of promoting openness and experiencing peace. Though the Turpan Grape Festival has been held for 18 times, this 19th Grape Festival will be new characteristic and be different from others because it is not only rich in content, but also ingenious.

People will enjoy splendid theatrical performances and unique and striking folk custom art. People can taste not only roast gamecock, camel meat, beef and mutton, but also the unique and extraordinary skill of Turpan roasting.

Many activities with ethnic characteristics will be held during the festival. First of all, the grand exhibition of more than 100 kinds of grapes will give people a thorough knowledge of the culture of grapes. Secondly, there will be the assessment of grapes, grapes auction, free sampling of grapes and grape-eating games. Thirdly, the contest of Grape Girls is held in order to promote and develop the culture of grapes. Fourthly, the fifth exhibition of Turpan photographic works and the fifth motorcycle race around Aydingkol Lake will provide the photographers and the motorists with plenty of interest. Fifthly, the exhibition of unearthed cultural relics of Yanghai Ancient Tomb, with the addition of the latest one hundred unearthed cultural relics, may help tourists understand the rich and complex culture. Besides, the Grape Festival Concert is to be held on the square of Turpan. The Second International Cross Country Challenge is to be held in the Kuruk Desert of Shanshan County, taking a stroll along the Aydingkol Lake and seeing a Uygur wedding ceremony will give tourists a strong impression of local folk customs.

The activities of this Grape Festival will show off the cultural richness of Turpan and will help people to appreciate the special touristic value, the folk customs and art of Xinjiang.
