According to official figures, the severe drought has hit many places in the southwest of the country, especially in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan and Chongqing.

 

As lacking of water, there is nearly 1 million hectares of cropland has become unproductive so that millions of people are suffering from hunger. On the other hand, about 16 million people have no adequate drinking water. In some areas which are strongly affected, most residents have not had a bath for more than six months. What’s worse, a famous tourist attraction- Guizhou Huangguoshu waterfall-is only a quarter of the original amount of water.

Until now, the central government has invested 370 million yuan for drought relief. But it is forecasted that the drought will continue in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi until next month.
