Highlights

Baopingkou Scenic Spot, Yuzui Diversion Channel and Feishayan Spillway are three famous    points you should visit.

Baopingkou Scenic Spot is the first survey you can see in Dujiangyan. It’s a canal totally made by hand. The name of Baopingkou means shaped like a bottleneck.

During the Qin Dynasty, there is no gunpowder to use, so Li Bin used heated rocks to cause expansion and blast the way through.  Though it is just 20 meters wide, it reveals the genius of the Baopingkou canal as it adjusts the flow of the river and ensures flood protection.

The best view point of Baopingkou is the top of the Fulong Temple.

Feishayan Spillway is the second important part of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. Though it looks unimpressive, it has an important job to do. During high water, Feishayan can release floodwater and when the dry season comes, Feishayan becomes a dam. Visit Feishayan in the rainy season and you can see the roaring water running through Feishayan.

Yuzui Diversion Channel is the core of the whole Dujiangyan Irrigation System. It is the last spot at Dujiangyan and it is the most valuable scenic point to see. The channel looks like a fish mouth so people named it Yuzui (fish mouth in Chinese). Yuzui  divides the waters of the Ming River and leads them into the outer river and inner river.

This design means that the water in rainy season can be released into the outer river, and still make the inner river run in dry season. The Channel is made by cobblestones without any concrete! Dujiangyan Irrigation System is a marvel of  engineering history!

Around Dujiangyan there are also many beautiful scenic spots to see. Lidui Park is at the entrance of Dujiangyan, a beautiful park in any season of the year. Inside the park there is Fulong Temple, which has a pavilion for travelers to view the whole scenery of Dujiangyan. In the Huicui Palace there is Dujiangyan Museum. The Museum isn’t big, but introduces the whole Dujiangyan Irrigation System clearly in a short time.

Erwang Temple commemorates the memory of Li Bin and his son. Inside the temple there are many inscriptions written by famous scholars such as Xu Beihong and Zhang Daqian. Erwang Temple is located in the passageway of Yuzui and is easy to reach.

Emei Mountain

Emei Mountain is located next to the Leshan. In Leshan there are many buses to Emei so it is convenient to get there.
