As we expected, Shanghai is a very "big city," We stayed four blocks from the north end of The Bund , and our 18th floor room overlooked the river and the Pearl Tower . At night the buildings are all a computerized light show flashing on and off in every imaginable sequence.
It seems cities in China have designated areas for "types" of stores. If you find a plumbing shop, there will be twenty more on the same street, and then several more blocks of them, all selling the same things. Same with steel houses, tile stores, auto repair or appliance outlets. Our hotel just happened to be right on the edge of a dozen blocks of tool & shop equipment stores!
Both of us agreed the best part of our tour was to the huge Suzhou (Suejoe) silk factory. After raising silk worms at preschool for a dozen years, we finally got to see how the silk is actually made.
