Kaiguang Diting, Chizhou

Diting is also called “unicorn”,”Diting”,”Shanting”. It is the treasure of Mt.Jiuhua. The legend says that it is the horse of Golden Dizang Bodhisattva. The Golden Dizang stayed at Mt.Jiuhua in order to cultivate himself. Thanks to the accompaniment of Diting day and night, he could turn ill luck into good and achieve his Buddhist career at last. Tingting is adorable called by Buddhism as the Fairy Dog. People in later generations regarded it as the symbol of fortune due to its knowledge of Buddhism, understanding of human thought and resistance to evil things.

Tingting collects the fortunate parts of all the beasts in the world and integrates them in one body. It has the head of a tiger, a single horn, and the ear of a dog, the body of a dragon, the tail of a lion and the feet of a kylin. The making is so delicate and the imagination is so wide. The worldly people cherish and widely collect it as “the treasure to stabilize the house”, “the respected one in temples”, “the spirit of heaven and earth” and “the symbol of all the beasts”.

The cultural relic is now collected at Mt.Jiuhua. It has bronze texture,Qing dynasty, 84.5 cm long,   72.5cm high with a weight of 125 kilometers. The posture is that a unicorn suddenly turning its head back. The mark at the bottom says “manufactured at Mei city, Gusu.” It is the national cultural relic of key protection. In May, 1987, it was collected by Huacheng Temple of Kaishan Ancient Temple,i.e. the Mt. Jiuhua Museum of History and Cultural Relics. And it belongs to the heirloom of Mt.Juhua temples.

The product is the minimized duplicate of cultural relic. At present there are 999 authorized figures.
