Feature: Eling Park, as the oldest private garden in Chongqing, is the highest point on Chongqing Peninsula. On the top of the park, it’s the best place to overlook the river scenery and enjoy the attractive night view of Chongqing city.

Overview

There are “three highlights” in Chongqing, namely eating hotpot, enjoying night view and cruising the Yangtze River. The best place to enjoy the night view of Chongqing City is Eling Park in the west of the city.

Eling Park (also named Goose Neck Park) is located on First Changjiang Road, Yuzhong District, at the highest point of Yuzhong Peninsula. It is located on the narrow and steep mountain ridge where the Yangtze River and Jialing River traverse. Eling was originally named Erxiangling, because it looks like the neck of a goose in shape.

During the war against Japanese invasion, Chiang Kai Shek and his wife had been at Feige (flying pavilion) for half a year. The former British ambassador Karl had been at Feige for five years. The former Australian consulate was once established inside the park. After 1949 when Chongqing was liberated, Eling Park served as the seat of southwest military command region.

Eling Park is the best place for overlooking the night view of Chongqing City and enjoying the beautiful landscape on river banks. It is famous for its magnificence, steepness, and beauty. It is also celebrated as “the most beautiful scenery in Chongqing which is the mountainous city.” Inside the park, there are a number of scenic spots that are worth visiting, such as rope bridges, bonsai garden and Liangjiang Pavilion, boasting flowers, bonsais, night scenes and drinking tea leisurely. The chrysanthemum exhibition in autumn is famous and popular, which is regarded as the paragon for the landscape garden art of Chongqing.
