Chongqing Railway Stations

There are three railway stations in Chongqing City: Chongqing Railway Station (Caiyuanba), North Railway Station (formerly known as the Longtou Temple Station), and South Railway Station (Jiulongpo). Chongqing has five major railway lines: the Chengdu-Chongqing railway, the Sichuan-Guizhou railway, the Xiangyu railway, the Yuhuai railway, and the Suining-Chongqing Railway. There is another minor line also: the Daiwang Railway that goes to the Three Gorges Reservoir Area. The first three major lines pass through the Chongqing Railway Station in the center of the city. The last two railways (Yuhuai and Suining-Chongqing) go through the Chongqing North Railway Station. From either station, you can travel all over China.

Of the three train stations, the stations with the most passengers are the Chongqing Railway Station and the North Railway Station. The former is an old railway station located in the Yuzhong District of Chongqing City. Right next to the Chongqing Railway Station is the Caiyuanba Bus Station that has the most routes in Chongqing City. However, the disadvantage is that the area is not as modern. On the other hand, the North Railway Station is located in the Yubei District of Chongqing City, and it is newly built. The surroundings are much better than that of the Chongqing Railway Station. Moreover, its facilities are better. From the North Railway Station, you can catch bullet trains that go to Chengdu. However, the flaw in all the perfect things is that the North Railway Station is far away from the main city. Therefore, the transportation is not so convenient. The South Railway Station is located in Yangjiaping. Although you can buy train tickets here, the passenger trains in this station are all slow trains. If you have other options, it is recommended that you not travel on the South Railway Station’s lines.

Chongqing Caiyuanba Railway Station

Address: Caiyuan Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing.

Introduction

At present, the Chongqing Caiyuanba Railway Station is rated a first class station. International trains that travel outside the country pass through here. It is at the junction of three main national rail lines: the Chuan-Qian Railroad (from Chongqing to Guizhou, Guiyang), the Cheng-Yu Railroad (from Chengdu in the west to Chongqing in the east) and the Xiang-Yu Railroad (from Xiangfan in the east to Chongqing in the west). On these three lines, travelers can go directly to many cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and Chengdu. The Caiyuanba Train Station is under the jurisdiction of the Chengdu Railway Bureau and the Chongqing Railway Branch Bureau. The station is 504 kilometers away from Chengdu. The construction of Caiyuanba Train Station began on January 20, 1959, and it was completed on September 10th of that year. It started operation on September 15, 1959. Before 1949, the station had several names, but since September 30, 1949, it’s name as been the Chongqing Railway Station. It is known as a “Door to the Capital City.”

Passenger transport: the station handles passenger transport and luggage and parcel shipping; there is no freight cargo service.

Layout:

Caiyuanba Railway Station has a tandem type of layout. There is a receiving-departure yard, the transition yard, and the switch yard. ?

The Caiyuanba Railway Station includes: Six large or small VIP Lounges, one International First Class Lounge, four general Waiting Lounges, one overhead ticket checking hall, and one Waiting Room for soldiers. There are two automatic escalators and seven lifts, a ticket hall, and an international box office. The modernization of the internal facilities and passenger transport service in Caiyuanba Railway Station started in 1976. From then on, Chongqing Railway Station has modernized: computers print out tickets, there is TV remote security, automatic package checking, weighing and query, wireless communication, and automatic telephone inquiry.

Transportation:

There are two types of taxis in Chongqing: 80% of them are yellow Antelope taxis and 20% are white Mondeo taxis. During the day, the initial rate for Antelope yellow taxis is 5 RMB for the first 3 kilometers, and then 1.8 RMB per kilometer afterwards; the initial rate for white Mondeo taxis is 7 RMB for the first three kilometers, and then 2.4 RMB per kilometer afterwards. At night from 22:00 to 07:00, both kinds of taxis charge an extra 20% fare. For example, if you take a taxi from Jiangbei Airport to Jiefangbe that is a distance of 28 kilometers, the yellow Antelope taxi will cost you 50 RMB, and the white Mondeo charge is 67 RMB.

Reminder:

When getting out of a taxi, you should ask the driver for the invoice. This is especially true around the Caiyuanba Railway Station where there are lots of non-local people. It may turn out that he gave you incorrect change or counterfeit cash. Some taxis are bogus, not officially registered. Some taxis might take you around the wrong way. So it is necessary to keep a note of the taxi license number as a precaution against being tricked by a bogus taxi driver.

Bus:

Chongqing is one of the few cities in China that doesn’t permit bicycles on the roads. You can catch buses, light rail, cross-river cableway, and ferries. Buses are the most common way to go. There are two classes of buses. First class buses are air-conditioned and often have less people and better seats, and ordinary buses are not air-conditioned. The initial rate for an ordinary bus is 1 RMB, and that of the air-conditioned buses is 1.5 yuan. In the city, most buses run from about 5:30 or 6:30 to about 9:00 PM or 10:30 PM. Of course, there are plenty of private vehicles for hire.

Chongqing North Railway Station

Station site: Xinqiao, Shapingba District in Chongqing City.
Chongqing North Railway Station is 17 kilometers away from Xiaonanhai Station, and 6 kilometers away from Lishuwan Station.?

Introduction:

Chongqing North Railway Station, formerly known as the Longtou Temple Station, was opened in 2006 when the Yuhuai railway line officially started in service. At present, in the Shapingba Station, there are only a small number of terminals available for the trains from Chongqing Railway Station to stop. Chongqing North Railway Station and Chongqing Railway Station can both sell the tickets of the other station, and require no service fees for doing this. Passenger transport tickets can also be bought from Shapingba Station, but only CRH tickets (for bullet trains) are available during busy periods.?

Chongqing North Railway Station is primarily in charge of the Yu-Huai Railway and the Suining-Chongqing Railway. It handles about 40 passenger trains on average daily, including various types of passenger trains. These include inexpensive bullet trains to Chengdu that take about two hours to arrive.
All the trains running on the Yu-Huai Railway depart from and stop in Chongqing North Railway Station. Trains heading towards the north can pass on to An Kang, Xi’an, Xiangfan, Beijing, and other places. Trains heading towards the west can pass through Suining-Chongqing Railway and Dazhou-Chengdu Railway on to Chengdu. Trains heading towards the east can go through Hunan Huaihua Railway Station and arrive in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Changsha, and other places.

At present, the Chongqing North Railway Station is not open all day. The first bullet train leaves for Chengdu at 8:00 AM. The last train at night is the fast train departing to Hangzhou at 23:59 in the evening.
Shipping: Special lines only transport fresh fruits.
Station Transportation:
Several buses are available from the main part of Chongqing to the North Railway Station: No. 105, 168, 202, and 419. An underground tunnel connects directly with the light rail station where passengers go on light rail Line 3 (under construction) to Jiaochangkou and the Jiangbei Airport. A long-distance bus station is also located at the ground floor of the station for convenience. ?
Tips:

  1. You can take bus No. 419 from the square in front of the Caiyuanba Railway Station to the Chongqing North Railway Station.
  2. Caiyuanba Railway Station and Chongqing North Railway Station sell the tickets of the other station as well. This means that you can buy the tickets of all the trains departing from the Chongqing North Railway Station at the Caiyuanba Railway Station and vice versa.?
