China Chang’ an Annual International Calligraphy Meeting is usually held in the last week of March in Xi’an annually, which is a large-scale calligraphy exchange activity sponsored by Shaanxi Tourism Administration. It was held in the year 1986 for the first time, and has attracted an increasing number of calligraphy celebrities to participate these years. Chinese calligraphy is a traditional art that is peculiar to Chinese characters, with a history of thousands of years. Chang’an (the old name of Xi’an) is reputed as “Home to Calligraphy”, where people of calligraphy talent have come forth in large numbers and the largest number of calligraphy masterpieces and upright stone tablets in all ages are well preserved. China Chang’ an Annual International Calligraphy Meeting has a significant influence both at home and abroad.
During the calligraphy meeting, there are a variety of activities, mainly including a grand ceremony, the large-scale autograph ceremony of imitating the goose pagoda of the Tang Dynasty, the paintings and calligraphies exhibition of celebrities in all ages, the association of outstanding calligraphers from various areas and countries, the exhibition and spot sale of the four stationery treasures of the Chinese study (writing brush, ink stick, ink slab and paper), calligraphy theory seminar and a visit to forest of steles.
