Phone Use

Telephone is a very fast way for communication. Here we will provide you information about how to make phone calls from other countries to China and within China. However. with the modern technologies, international calling has become so cheap, just as a part of your daily expense. You have many companies like Rebtel, offering you reasonable services that are easy-to-use and more suitable. Usually there are the following circumstances:

To make a phone call within China:

a.  If you want to reach a fix-lined phone number in the city where you are, you can directly dial the phone number. But if the phone number is in another city of the same province, an area code should be added before the phone number. For example, if you are now in Guangxi Nanning, and you want to make a telephone call to Guangxi Guilin , “0773” should be added before the phone number. Another situation is that, if you dial a number of another province in China, an area code should also be added before the phone number. For example, if you are now in Guangxi Guilin, and you want to call a phone in Shanghai , “021” should be added before the phone number. (This method is the same for using a fix-lined phone and a mobile phone.)

b.  Using a fix-lined phone: If you want to reach a mobile phone number in the city where you are, you can directly dial the mobile phone number. But if the mobile phone number is from different cities or different provinces, “0” should be added before the mobile phone number. For example, you are now in Guangzhou and you want to dial a mobile phone number in Beijing , you should dial 013556948537.
     Using a mobile phone: dial the mobile phone number directly.

To make a phone call to China:

a. To reach a mobile phone number: “0086” should be added before the phone number, for example: 008613557874589.

b. To reach a fix-lined phone number: “0086” + area code (the first “0” should be deleted, for example, the area code of Guangzhou is “020”, and you can just use “20”) + the fix-lined phone number. For example: 0086 20 81396528


By the way, I suggest you buy a brochure which lists area codes of all cities in China, which would be of great help if you want to call someone from different cities in China.
