Though China is a comparatively safe country, there are snakes in the paradise. Any travel holds inherent dangers, especially for the students who are young and lack of travel experiences. Many foreign students come to China for study, doing internship, working or just for traveling. As foreign student, you may enjoy some discounts or preferential prices in certain occasions. Here is some useful information:

, Try to learn some Chinese language. Not being able to speak the local language while traveling abroad will hinder you from getting help. Memorize some possibly helpful phrases, such as Jiu Ming! 救命!(Help!), Jiao Jing Cha! 叫警察( Call the police! ), Zou Kai! 走开(Go away!), Xiao Tou! 小偷!(Thief!), Qiang Jie! 抢劫!(I've been robbed!) and so on.

, be aware of sticky hands, scam artists who may target you because of your youth, which they might equate with naïveté.

, Learn the laws and customs of China to lessen your chances of brushes with the local law.

, don’t walk alone on deserted streets after dark and stay alert. Avoid carrying too much cash. Using credit card is highly recommended.

, while on transmit and sightseeing, get your bag under your control and at your view all times.

, your foreign student card (issued by your local school/ organizations) can access you to a certain discount on admission fees at some scenic spots in some cities, but not to the preferential fares such as Train or air ticket. Several student travel ID cards, like ISIC (International Student Identity Card), exist which can provide student travel discounts on everything from travel itself to books and movies in Hong Kong and Macau , but not in mainland China.
