TOPGeneral Information

By the end of the year 2001, the Mulam Ethnic Minority in Guangxi has a total population of 168,000, which accounts for 98% of the whole population of the Mulam Ethnic Minority  and for 0.35% of the population of whole autonomous region. The Mulam Ethnic Minority takes a sixth place in terms of population among all ethnic groups in Guangxi.

The Mulam people mainly live in Mulam autonomous county of Luocheng in the north of Guangxi. A small portion scatters around  Yizhou City,  Liucheng, Rongshui, Xincheng, Liujiang, Hechi and Huangjiang, which are in the neighborhood of the Mulam Autonomous County. The areas where the Mulam ethnic people live have picturesque sceneries and a pleasant climate.

Mulum people are mainly engaged in farming but they are very active in bazaar trade activities all through the ages.

TOPLanguage

The Mulam language belongs to the Zhuang-Dong language branch of the Han- Tibetan Language Family, and is very similar to the Maonan language and the Dong language. The Mulam Ethnic Minority has no writing system of its own. Since they have lived together with the sibling groups of the Han  and Zhuang , etc, for a long time, many of them can speak the Han language and the Zhuang language besides the Mulam language.
