Xitang Transportation

Xitang is 90 km from Shanghai City, 100 km from Hangzhou City and 80 km from Suzhou City. The new class-A Shanjiang Highway runs by the town of Xitang, joining National Highway 320, National Highway 318 and the Huhang Expressway.
There are tourist buses to Xitang from Shanghai Sightseeing Bus Center on weekends. The buses leave Shanghai Stadium and Hongkou Football Stadium at 09:00 and return from Xitang at 16:00. The round-trip ticket is 85 yuan. On workdays, there are buses to Xitang directly from the long-distance bus station in Shanghai North District (80 Gongxing Road). Two buses leave at 07:50 and 13:30.
There are express buses to Jiashan from Hangzhou East Bus Station every 40 minutes, taking 1 hour 30 minutes and costing 27 yuan. Then take a bus to Xitang (every 5 minutes, taking 30 minutes and costing 3.5 yuan).
It is 25-30 yuan for a taxi from Jiashan to Xitang. The last bus from Xitang back to Jiashan leaves at 18:00. You don’t have to worry if you have missed it: you can always find a taxi back to Jiashan before 21:00. A taxi is still cheap if the price is shared.
There are also buses from Jiaxing North Station (12 buses run per day, taking 50 minutes and costing 6 yuan).

By Railway
You can take the train from Shanghai or Hangzhou to Jiashan (1.5 hours), and then go to Xitang by bus or taxi.
There are also trains from Jiashan to Nanchang, Wuhan, Huaihua, Zhanzhou, Pinxiang, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Quzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou and Tsitsihar.
There is a special-express train from Shanghai South Station to Jiashan costing 8 yuan.
After you get out of Jiashan Railway Station, walk to the Insurance Building and turn left to get to Jiashan Bus Station for a bus to Xitang (every 10 minutes, price: 4 yuan). Alternatively you could take a taxi for 20-30 yuan.

The major difference between Xitang and other ancient water towns lies in the ceilinged corridors (about 1,000 meters (1,100 yards) long) beside the river, which are just like the Summer Palace Corridor. » more
