The park, covering an area of 14,100 mu, is the largest Gremy’s Kao forest in the world. This kind of tree was named after Gremy, a British botanist who first discovered the forest and wrote articles on it in the 19th century.
The tree is a precious evergreen tree with yellow flowers. The wood is hard and thus good for shipbuilding and high-quality furniture. The bark can be used in making glue and the fruit is starchy and tastes sweet and thus called the “Lesser Chestnut.” The forest is over 200 years old and the average height of the trees is 26 meters.
