The City of Sanming, roughly 22,959 square kilometers (the city proper is about 1,178 square kilometers) in area, is located amongst the great Wuyi and Daiyun Mountains in northwestern Fujian province, and has a population of about 1.8 million. Sanming is a newly developed industrial city and a key city in the “Green Triangle” Tourist Area.

Sanming has a long history and is rich in both natural and historical treasures, including the “second-to-none” Jinhu Lake in Taining; the Taoyuan Cave of  Yong’an, which was praised as “the most spectacular” by Xu Xiake, the great geologist and traveler of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644); the Yuhua Cave of Jiangle, the Swan Caves of Ninghua, the Seven Immortals Cave of Shaxian, and the Yuxu Cave of Mingxi, and the ancient buildings and stone carvings from the Ming Dynasty.

Now Sanming is a part of the “Green Triangle” Tourist Area with Wuyi Mountain as the center and offers tourists a long list of activities: people can explore the maiden forests and the deep and fascinating caves, cruise the mountain streams, study the unique landscape, go fishing and hunting, or just sit down in a quiet place and relax.
