Opened in 2000, Piano Museum covers an area of 450 square metres. It has two stories and exhibits over 40 pianos which were collected by Hu Youyi, a patrotic oversea Chinese. There are priceless gilded piano, the oldest quadrangular piano, the biggest and oldest vertical piano, the ancient handdriven piano and so on.

Neither common tourists nor musicians can feel the charm of art and the enlightenment of music. Geoffrey Tosca, an Australian respected pianist who is Hu Youyi’s sworn friend, once said, ‘I’m proud of my friend. He gave to China a most special gift.’ To celebrate the opening of the museum, Geoffrey Tosca gave a special concert in Gulangyu’s music theater. After visiting the museum, Michele, a French pianist, said, ‘I hope someday I can hold an international piano art festival here.’ Many musicians and artists who have been there all succumb to the magic of music in the Piano Museum.

There will be an ad-libbing every half an hour with some specific pianos. Stand in the kingdom of pianos, and listen to the beautiful melody carried inside the museum, you will feel the charm of music and the truth of life.
