he latitude of the Mist Cave Rock is only 280 meters. Seeing from the foot to the peak of the rock, it is composed of various exquisite, peculiar and different shapes of granites in tiers. The area of this scenic spot is about 5 square kilometers. There are towering crags, jagged rocks of grotesque shapes, deep and quiet caves here. And it looks as if it were man-made miniature scenery. The main tourist spots include the Moon Gorge, the Thousand People Cave, the Stone Flying from Afar, Gleam from Heaven, Wind-shaking Stone, the crag rock carvings, and so on.
The Moon Gorge is a marvelous spectacle in this scenic area. Every Mid-Autumn night on the 15th day of the eighth month of Chinese lunar calendar, the round moon in the sky reflects on the lucid spring, and shins upon the rock walls, which have formed a spectacular scene of Three Moon Shines Together. Be sure not to miss such best time if you travel in the Mist Cave Rock. There are about 150 cliff inscriptions on the Mist Cave Rock with different writing styles in Chinese calligraphy, so it is praised as the Best Forest of Inscriptions in South Fujian . The famous philosopher of a Confucian school of idealist in the Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi, had taught in the Mist Cave Rock, and made two inscriptions, “Xi Shan Di Yi” (No. 1 on the Xi Hill), and “Shi Shi Qing Yin” (Retire quietly into the rock room). Another philosophy of Taoist in the Ming Dynasty, Cai Lie, has also dwelled here in seclusion while writing books and teaching.
