The Qilian Mountain(Chinese pinyin: qí lián shān, also Nan Shan-"Southern mountain") is a northern outlier of the Kunlun Mountains, forming the border between Qinghai and Gansu provinces. The range stretches from the south of Dunhuang for about 800 odd km to the southeast, forming the western border of the Gansu Corridor (the historical route in Gansu province, passing Lanzhou , Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiuquan, Dunhuang). Formerly the mountain range was named Richthofen Range after Ferdinand von Richthofen. The mountain has an average elevation of about 4,000-5,000 meters.
The Qilian Mountain is blessed with grand landscapes, thick virgin forest and abundant species of animals and plants. It is also home to rare animals like green deer, red deer, lynx, snow cock, and snow leopard and many other animals. So it is the treasure house of species diversity for China and even the world.
Moreover, there are many well-known local flavors stalls in Qilian Mountain.
