The prefecture-level city of Foshan ("Buddha Mountain") is located about 25 kilometers southwest of the city of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province (Guangzhou was known as "Canton" during the colonial era... and to round things out, Foshan itself was known by outsiders during the colonial era as "Fatshan", for some reason, either inexplicable or humorous... Rating: Average

Nice place to visit during CNY, not a tourist destination so things are more local flavor. Lots of things to do but you must ferret them out as there are not a lot of westerners going there. Two really nice hotels in city center, three or four moderately priced hotels near by. Do not miss the Ancestral Temple or the Ancient Kiln! Flower Street during CNY is mind boggling beautiful.
