Nanfeng Ancient Kiln was founded during the reign of Emperor Zhengde of Ming Dynasty (1506-1521). This kiln witnessed the advanced techniques of the prosperous time of the ceramics in Shiwan. It is also a landmark in the ceramics history of southern China as it served as a link between the traditional method and new method. This kiln plays an important role in the development of the ceramics in Shiwan. The fire in this kiln never stops sparking in these five hundred years. The ancient kiln is preserved very well and it could still put into production today. Nanfeng Ancient Kiln is the oldest, best preserved and working imperial kiln in China, even in the world. On July 2001, State Council announced Nanfeng Ancient Kiln to be the National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit. Later, it was listed into Guinness world record and it is praised as “living cultural relic”.
