Guangzhou is a mix of tradition/ culture and modern buildings. The renovation is going faster and faster, a bit too fast if you ask me, the contrasts are a bit too much at some places.Public transport is really awesome and affordable. Many affordable hotels, if you would like to stay in Tianhe during the weekends a reservation is recommended. The city is not as vibrant as Shenzhen at night.

Awesome metro, as good as Shanghai. Taxis are inexpensive (if you must) but slower. Shopping capital of China in my opinion, better than Shanghai or Beijing! Look for Jade Street, watch your wallet! Fireworks at White Swan hotel on CNY is a life event. You will never forget the experience.

Once you overlook a few problems like pollution, chaotic traffic, high criminal rate, you will really find a nice, interesting city.

"A city in flowers"

Guangzhou is not attractive at all. Neither the city's culture or its natural scene can push the city into traveler's minds. They are actually too mediocre compared with the brilliant historical monuments and natural wonders in other part of the country. What the city can offer is the small delights hided in the city's back streets: the makeshift food stalls serving delicious food and snacks, the flowers markets.
My Ratings:
"Guangzhou is a good city"
