Guangzhou Art Museum is a contemporary art museum of modernized, multi-functional construction. It is a nonprofit-aimed and permanent national institution for cultural undertakings serving for the society and the social development and opening to the public. The museum has six multiple functions such as collecting, researching, exhibiting, educating, communicating and serving.

Guangzhou Art Museum mainly collects works of art in modern China concerning coastal places and overseas Chinese as well as some contemporary works of art of Guangdong Province. The coastal works of art in modern China are so thoughtful and artistic that they can better reflect the change of believes and themes of the art works in the collision of Chinese and western cultures. The works of art by overseas Chinese clearly show the artistic conception of the artists living or traveling abroad when they experience the fierce culture conflict, culture barrier and society barrier. So the artistic conception expressed by these works is the important evidence to research the artistic phenomena of overseas Chinese. The contemporary Guangdong art works, mainly reflecting the evolution of art in Guangdong, is an essential part to comprehensively promote the development of artistic undertakings of Guangdong Province. Guangdong Museum of Art often holds some edifying art exhibitions on special subjects, or on famous persons that can cultivate our taste, broaden our views and enrich our lives.
