Guangzhou is the transportation hub of Southern China. The new Guangzhou Airport is an important International airport in China. Each day there are flights to all parts of China and some foreign countries. Guangzhou's highway system is also well developed. The region's sprawling road can take visitors to the whole country. There is also good water transportation system in which the Huangpu Port is a large and very important port in Southern China.

The Guangzhou Baiyun Airport has daily flights to every part of China and some overseas cities.The airport is situated in Huadu District, 28 kilometers away from center of Guangzhou. There are specific airport highways from the urban areas to the airport.

Now 8 express lines serve the airport from the urban areas.

No. 1 Express Line: Civil Aviation Ticket Office (the railway station)  to the Baiyun Airport.  Operate every 20 minutes.

No. 2: Guangyun Building to Baiyun Airport. Baiyun Airport. Every 30 minute, one bus.

No3: Fangcun Passenger Station to Baiyun Airport. 30 minutes, one bus.

No4: Mingzhu Hotel to Baiyun Airport.  one bus, each hour.

No5: Global Hotel to Baiyun Airport. Baiyun Airport. Every 15 minutes, one bus

No.6: Zhujiang New City Square to Baiyun Airport. Bus departs at an interval of 20 minutes.

No 7: Panyu Municipal Bridge (subordinate line to the University Town) to Baiyun Airport. Operate every 30 minutes.

No 8: Panyu Municipal Bridge (subordinate line to the University Town) to Baiyun Airport. Operate every 30 minutes.

Jingguang (Beijing-Guangzhou) Railway and Jingjiu (Beijing-Hongkong) Railway run through Guangzhou. Guangzhou railway station is situated in the western ring-road. Travelers can get there by buses of No.7, 34, and 225.. It's very convenient. There are trains to the large and medium cities all over the country.

There are direct trains very 15 to 30 minutes from Guangzhou to Shenzhen which you can take at both Guangzhou Eastern Railway Station and Guangzhou Railway Station. The ticket is about 70 yuan per person.

There are also direct passenger trains for Guangzhou to Hong Kong at Guangzhou Eastern Railway Station.

There is a developed highway system in Guangzhou. Guang-Fo(Guangzhou-Foshan) Highway and Guang-Hua Highway were put into use in succession. Now, there are more than ten coach stations in Guangzhou offering plenty of coaches to different cities and counties in and out of Guangdong Province.

Guangzhou Provincial Bus Station is the largest bus station in Guangdong province. Buses depart here daily to the neighboring Guangxi, Hunan, Fujian and Jiangxi Provinces. There are also deluxe buses to Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macau. The easiest way from Guangzhou to Hong Kong is by the deluxe bus following along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen freeway in 2.5 hours.

Note: the bus station is really in chaos and extremely crowded during peak travel season and tranditional Chinese holidays. Avoid it and try flight as long as possible.

Guangzhou is located by the Pearl River. Boats sailing along the river can take visitors to Hong Kong, Macau, Haikou and Sanya.

Public Buses

There is developed and busy buses transportation system in Guangzhou. Price ranges from 3 yuan to 5 yuan depending on the bus conditions. Public bus perhaps is the cheapest way to get around the city. Be forewarned though, buses in Guangzhou is also very crowded because of the city's huge population.

Subway

The subway system in Guangzhou is pretty sound. At present, the subway lines in use such as No.1, 2, 3, and University Town line crisscross and form a subway transportation network covering the whole city .Ticket price is based on traveling distance.

No.1 Subway runs 18.48 kilometers from Eastern Guangzhou Station to Xilang, having 16 stops.

Subway 2: from Jiangxia in Baiyun District to Pazhou in Haizhu District and then to Wanshenwei Station.

Subway 3: the mainr line is from Eastern Guangzhou Station to Panyu Square, and the branch line is from Tianhe Passenger Station to Tiyuxi.

University Town Line has only 5 stations until now, i.e., Wanshengwei, Guanzhou, Beiting, Nanting, and Xinzao.

Ticket selling machine in subway station accepts coins only. You can exchange coins using the automated change-switching machine or in ticket places or banks.

Special Tour lines

Among the various tour lines, No. 1 and No 2 are most useful. Fares are 2 yuan.

No.1 Tour Line starts at Tianhe Bus Station and ends at No.8 Zhongshan Road and passes Sports Center, Time Square, Baiyun Rope Way, Yongfu Road, Huang Hua Gang, Nonglinxialu, Memorial Mausoleum to the Martyrs in Guangzhou Uprising, Former Site of Guangzhou Peasants Movement Institute, Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall, Sanyuan Palace, Panfu Road, North Haizhu, Liurong Temple, Chen Ancestral Shrine.

No.2 Tour Line starts at No.8 Zhongshan Road and ends at Tianhe Bus Station and passes Chen Ancestral Shrine, Hualin Temple, Southern Mansion, Wende Road, Dashatou, Xinghai Concert Hall, Xiancun Road.

Besides, travelers can go to Hong Kong Disneyland directly by taking a bus at the Hong Kong Disneyland Special Tour Line Station which is  set at the Yitai Square, Jiefang Northern Road, Guangzhou.

Taxies

At present, Guangzhou has about 16,000 taxies but demand is also huge particularly during peak hours from 8 am to 9 am and at lunch and dinner.

Taxies follow the principles of "marked prices". The starting fare is 7 yuan for the first 2.3 kilometers, and it is 2.2 or 2.6 every kilometer after that
