The city of Shenzhen is located on the East side of the Pearl River/ the Pearl River Estuary, just north of Kowloon Peninsula, the part of Hong Kong that is contiguous with mainland China. The city's relationship to Hong Kong, for all practical purposes, is that of a suburb, albeit, a very new and modern suburb. In fact, the city of Shenzhen has today become an integral part of Hong Kong, serving many supportive functions for Hong Kong for which there is simply not space in Hong Kong itself, given that Hong Kong is also home to millions of residents who feel a special attachment to the city and who therefore would not be inclined to make way for yet more skyscrapers and office blocks to, for example, house the many foreign trade representations that wish to set up shop in Hong Kong.

"The Special Economic Zone is amazing"

Lovely city, especially when you are staying for a longer period and know the better, not so famous, places. Get in touch with the people and discover the amazing Chinese hospitality. Enjoy the modern buildings, but don't be afraid to face the narrow streets, the atmosphere is amazing.Don't waste your time in theme parks, discover 'real' things like Wutong Shan, Lianhua Shan Park, Li Zhi Park, Da Peng Suo Chen and the many villages... Shenzhen SEZ has more to offer than most people think.Do you like seafood? Take a look at leyuan lu.No history? Shenzhen's writing history.

"Living in Shenzhen"

I have been living in Shenzhen for 5 months. Thepublic transport in the city is very easy to use. My only wish is that the bus schedules were also in English. The city is quite attractive. The highway medians and roadsides have well maintained flora that is changed seasonally. There are sculptures on many corners and in shopping areas. Many of the larger shopping areas have seasonal artwork displays, as well.

"A great city to live and work but not a ideal destionation for tourists"

This booming city is a profile of 21st century's China. Despite the great comfort and advantage brought by its modernity, the pressing atmosphere and fast-paced life make people feel uncomfortable.
