Laibin Strange Stones, Laibing

Laibin is also famous for the production of strange stones, so it is called the Home of Strange Stones. Laibin strange stones are mainly produced in Red Water River, Laibin river section. Red Water River runs through Laibin Area from west to east, crossing 11 towns (which occupies half of the total towns in Laibin Area), and the total distance is 162 kilometers. Along the river it is an eroded rock area. There are various gravels settled on the riverbed. While in the Red Water River Laibin river section, the riverbed is narrow with lots of bays. The water fall is great; meanwhile, the water is rapid. So the water together with the sands constantly move, roll, crash and erode the gravels in the riverbed, and eventually strange stones with various shapes and colors are made. The national geology experts authenticated that the history of the original rocks layers which Laibin strange stones come from is above 25-30 million years. Laibin strange stones accord with not only the traditional criteria for appreciating stones: thin, wrinkle, leaking, penetrating and ugly, but also the moder criteria: material, shape, lines and charm. So it enjoys a great popularity among people from home and abroad. After the beginning of the 1990s, lots of stone fans and experts constantly come to Laibin to appreciate the Laibin strange stones out of admiration. In addition, Laibin strange stones have been attending lots of international, national, provincial level strange stones exhibitions and have got a high reputation.
