The ancient town of Yangmei prospered for more than a thousand years by developing waterway transportation. It was originally built in the Song dynasty; it developed during the Ming dynasty and was at its most prosperous time in the Qing dynasty. Even now, Yangmei still preserves architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties including: ancient streets, lanes, temples, shrines, houses, trees, a port, Wenwu pagoda, and beacon tower. Entering the town, old houses of Ming and Qing dynasties are presented one by one, as well as other historical relics like Qizhu house, Juren's (the former second degree candidate in the provincial examination) house, Jinshi's (the former third degree candidate in the national civil service examination) house, Muyi gate, Jinyue monument, Huang's garden, ancient windows, and carved eaves.

There are 8 main scenic spots to visit in Yangmei: the Sunset Reflected on the Dragon Pool, Green Trees on Thunder Peak, Sword in the Spring, Pavilion Facing the River, Moon Night on the Beach, Medication on the Slope, Rosy Clouds Watching in the Pavilion and the Sound of Beach and Pine Forest. Visitors can see many stones along the beach, each possessing its own history and story, that were once appraised by a traveler named Xu Xiake during the Ming dynasty including: the steeple stone, penguin stone, golden frog stone, a sea lion looking back stone, horse stone, and a dolphins kissing stone,  The Imperial Seal is the main building; it is so named because it is 15.3 meters tall in the of a square.

In addition, there are two historical relics in the ancient town. One is the former residence on Jinma Street of Liang Zhitang and Liang Lieya, leaders of the 1911 Revolution. It was the secret place for meetings of the Zhengnanguan Revolution lead by Sun Yet-sun, the first president of the Republic of China. The other one is Kuixing Tower built in the first year of Qinglong period of Qing dynasty (1736 A.D.). With a majestic appearance, Kuixing Tower is not only a precious historic relic, but also an important memorial for the 1911 Revolution.

Edition HistoryEdit How to get there:

There are many ways to Yangmei for visitors. The first one is to depart from the Minsheng port in Nanning on a sight-seeing boat and get off at Yangmei port. The second one is to take a tourist bus at the grand house of aviation management which is diagonally across from the Second Passenger Station near the railway station. The bus costs 6 yuan and it will depart when it is full. The earliest bus leaves at 9 A.M. and will return starting at 2:30. The last bus back is at 4:00 P.M. The third option is to take the train to Baise at 8:30 A.M. and get off at Yangmei station. Visitors may walk around Yangmei town or take the local characterized oxcart. The Zuojiang River can be viewed by boat; there is a price list and scenic map pasted on the tree in the Jinma Plaza. Though the price is already reasonable, to rent a boat with others is cheaper.

Edition HistoryEdit Tips:

1. Accommodation:There are only two places to stay. One is in the Linjiang Restaurant on Linjiang street at the cost of 10 yuan per person. The condition is less than fair but it has a bathroom. The other choice is the Wensheng hotel near the entrance of the village; it has better conditions but a higher price. Each of them can only provide beds for less than thirty people.

2. Dining: The famous dishes in Yangmei are homebred chicken and Zuojiang fish; the Wudietang hotel is the best place to eat. There are three local products: black beans, sauerkraut and preserved vegetables. Rice is relatively cheap and the price for beverages is almost the same with that in Nanning.

3. Language: the local language in Yangmei is not Cantonese; however, the villagers can speak Cantonese and Mandarin, even the old can speak Cantonese.

4. The best time to visit there is in May and June when the lotus in the pool are in full blossom and the willow trees alive. Wampees amd bananas are also in season. These fresh clean fruits are too attractive for you to miss.
