Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous County is located in the southwest of Guizhou province, at the bordering region where three provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi Zhang Autionomous Region and Yunnan meet. The Nanpan River that flows by belongs to the Pearl River system (the third largest in China, just next to the Yangtze and the Yellow River). Set up on May 1, 1982 (one of the most recent among the 30 minority nationality autonomous counties in China), it is home to 33 nationalities like Han, Buyi, Miao, Yi and Hui etc. Qianxinan covers a land area of about 16,804 square kilometers; the highest point in the territory is 2,207.2 meters above the sea level while the average altitude of the whole county is 275 ...
