The tombs are located in the Jiaole Village, Yuzhang, southwest of Xinren County. Acceding to the rough estimation there are more than 100 tombs of Han dynasty in this part. Five of them have been excavated by the Guizhou Provincial Museum and wide range of precious antiques was unearthed, including bronze bowls, bronze plates, bronze knife and suchlike. In addition to the aforementioned bronze wares, some ancient coins, silver wares, jade ornaments and ambers were also discovered, which are all highly valuable for historical research. Up to now three of the five National Class I antiques unearthed from Han tombs in Guizhou are found here. They are the tomb figure playing musical instrument, the bronze horse and carriage and the Lianzhi lamp.
The above picture is a ceramic tomb figure playing musical instrument of the East Han Dynasty (25- 220 A. D.). The 36 cm tall tomb figure was unearthed in Jiaole Xinren County in 1987, and now it is a key collection of the Qianxinan City Culture Administration.
The hollow ceramic figure has smiling eyes and lion nose, sitting and running his fingers on a Chinese zither. The lifelike figure of high artistic value and craftsmanship illustrate that as far as 2, 000 years ago, the civilization and development in this remote region of Qianxinan in southwest China had already reached a very high level. The figure was exhibited in Beijing in 1990 as a delicate Chinese cultural antique of southwestern China.
