The Ten Thousand Peaks Lake

The lake came into being along with the construction of the Tianshengqiao aquatic power station in 1998. It took its name because it is lying in the arms of innumerable high peaks. The lake has a surface area of 176 square kilometer and a volume 10.26 billion cubic meters. Being one of the five major fresh water lakes in China, it boasts more than 30 isles, 58 peninsulas, 82 bays (40 are deep water bays) and 12 inner lakes. The lake is noted for its green water, reflection of peaks, and the varied sceneries at different time of a day.

Important attractions include the Stone Forest on the Water, the Immortal Turtle Climbing Hill, Cat and Rat Playing Chess, Ten Thousand Preciousness Return to the Treasury, Heroic Eagle Opening Its Wings, Two Camels Receiving Guests, Water Running out of the Mountain Gate, Treasures Cave, Laocaogou Cave, Wild Money Valley and Hand Rock Clmbing etc. Inside the scenic zone the tourist can view the huge scale modern aquatic power station, the grand Tianshengqiao Dam, many tranquil Buyi ancient villages, sheer valleys among others. Wide ranges of water sports are conducted here in recent years, good examples are boating, cruising, white water surfing, and angling etc.
