Located on the northern rim of Torrid Zone in the low latitude, Haikou enjoys a tropical marine climate, boasting sufficient sunshine and rainfall annually. It’s warm and relatively dry in spring, hot and rainy in summer, frequent typhoon and torrential rain in autumn and cold in winter. The annual sunshine duration is 2,225 hours, and the yearly average temperature is 23.8℃. The highest average temperature is about 28℃, and the lowest average temperature is about 18℃. The annual precipitation reaches 1,664mm.
Rainy season lasts from May to October, especially in September. From April to October, there is frequent typhoon and tropical storms, especially in August and September. Thus, while traveling to Haikou during this typhoon season, tourists had better tame much attention about the alarm. The best time to tour Haikou is from October to the following May when the weather is the most comfortable.
