Daqing Overview

Daqing is one of the ten great oil fields in the world, which lies in the Songnen Plain in northern China. It is also a most attractive Sandy Elm Wetland in China. In the area of Daqing and its surrounding area, there is a big lake basin with an area of 50,000 square kilometer. In the lake countless living beings such as mussel-shrimps, algae, fish, etc, were reproducing. After 100 million years of fossilization, a deposition layer of more than six thousand meters is formed, where the petroleum layer exists. This unique geographical resource gives birth to the largest oil field in China, Daqing Oil Field. Around Daqing City is a large area of reed marsh. In the tens of thousands hectare of reed marshes, the reeds are as many as a sea and the water paths are like a woven network. Hundreds of thousands of the crane, white crane, white stork, black stork and uncountable wild geese, gulls accompany with tourists throughout the year. The whole area of the city is 21,494 square kilometers, of which the urban area is 5,107 square kilometers. The population of the city is 2 million and 429 thousand, of which the population of the urban area is 1.04 million.
