Mudanjiang, a reputable land of milk and honey, is in the southeast of Heilongjiang Province. It becomes the heart of a ‘golden triangle' being bordering on its three sides by China, Russia and Korea, and it enjoys a name as ‘the lush southern land in the outer north'. The city of Mudanjian gained its name by the fact that the mighty Mudanjiang River runs through the city. Enclosed on all its sides by ranges of mountains and with even terrain in the middle, it certainly looks the part of a natural basin. Jingpo Lake, the largest volcanic lava-dammed lake, lies in the southwest of the city. As a tourist destination, Mudanjiang boasts rich tourist resources.
