Kaifeng Overview

Kaifeng, formerly named Bianliang, is located in the east part of Henan Province with a total area of 6,444 square km. It is 92km long from north to south and 126km long from west to east. Its downtown area occupies 359 square km.

Kaifeng is one of "24 historical and cultural cities" announced by the Chinese Government, one of seven ancient capitals. Kaifeng has both cultural and natural sights. It is characterized by "rich historical heritage, ancient city pattern, typical ancient style, and unique northern water city flavor".  Kaifeng City remain its original location and the central axis despite numerous rounds of wrecking and rebuilding during the past 2,700 years,  which is very rare  in city development history.

Beneath Kaifeng City, buried five piling-up underground cities in an enormous scale and of numerous piling levels.
