As an old saying in China, "A kind man is as composed as a great mountain; a wise man as broad-minded as clear water", Bai Yunshan mountain has magnificent peaks as well as limpid water. It boasts of its high peaks and vast mountain ridges. Yu Huangding, the No.1 peak in central China, has an altitude of 2,216m, and offers the vantage point for appreciating the sunrise and the sea of the cloud.
The limpid stream murmuring down the mountain makes Bai Yunshan even more magnificent. There are also three rivers streaming down the mountain-the River of Yi, Ru and Bai-which rush all the way into the Yellow River. And in the deep big canyon of the Bai River, you can come across ponds and waterfalls where ever you go. Jiulong Waterfall is a case in point. At an altitude of over 123m, it looks like the Milk Way which pours down at an irresistible force. In the bright sunshine, the waterfall takes on the color of the rainbow. You can appreciate the beautiful color wherever you move in the canyon. Bai Yunshan, a mountain with three rivers murmuring down, has absorbed the sacred spirit of the three rivers and it is the most unique landscape in central China. So it can be described as a brilliant reflection of the central China’s landscape.
The location of Bai yunshan is a demarcation line between the climate of the south and that of the north, so it is a transitional climatic zone from the sub-tropical one to the temperate one and has a great variety of plants and animals. Hence, it is designated as one of the state-level natural reserves. With its forest coverage reaching over 98.5%, it also boasts of more than 1991 kinds of plants, of which over 40 kinds are the state-level protected ones, and over 204 kinds of animals, of which over 20 kinds are the state-level protected plants. Bai Yunshan Mountain, featuring a thousand and one-mu virgin forests, murmuring limpid streams and colorful rare plants, is well-protected ecologically. The Cuckoo Forest grows widespread on the slopes. When the cuckoo flowers blossom, all the mountain will take on a bright colorful look. 400 stalks of rare gingko trees of the Tang Dynasty grow spectacularly in central China. Experts have described all the animals and plants as "a museum of the nature".
