It is a peculiar folk art form in the area of Luoyang, which firstly appeared in the middle period of Qing Dynasty. Taking the popular libretto or script of a ballad-singer in Luoyang as the content, using the tunes of the bass drum of Xihe and the tone of story-telling in Beijing dialect with drum accompaniment , it has become a new faction through moulding and choices .The initial musical instruments used in the Heluo bass drum performance are just of a pair of mandarin –duck shaped iron boards and a “jade drum” only. It is Zhang Tianpei , an artist ,who adds Xuanzi ,a stringed musical instrument, and makes the Xihe bass drum performance ,a flower of art, more dazzlingly beautiful.
