The Shiwan (which means ten thousand in Chinese) imperial court orchestra, , of Longmen Town in the suburb of the city, is an orchestra with a long history. They can play 18 songs at present such as " praising peace and prosperity " , "endless wealthand well-being" , "ode to the virtuous official” ,etc.. It is said that this musical piece was played in the era imperial court of the Sui and Tang dynasties, and later it circulated among the people. What it adopted is an old traditional Chinese musical notation. The main musical instruments are tube , sheng , wooden clapper (a percussion instrument made of a hollow wooden block, originally used by Buddhist priests to beat rhythm when chanting scriptures), copper bell , cloud board , erhu , sanxuan or 3-stringed Chinese guitar played with a plectrum , small bronze gong ,etc.. Each performance usually lasts for four to fifteen minutes. Two performances can also be played in succession. Its harmonious sounds are simple and unsophisticated, gentle and melodious; one will be greatly attracted by the beautiful melody and feel like that the music is lingering in the air.
