Shenhou Old Town

Surrounded by mountains, Shenhou Old Town has a hilly terrain which is high in northwest and low in southeast. There are many tilt old streets made of bluish stone pieces. Though rough to walk on, these streets cross with each other and create a special scene of the old town.

It’s said that Shenhou Old Street Neighborhood was built during the governing years of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty. Made of four old villages (villages respectively in the east, west, south, and north), two main neighborhoods (Red Stone Bridge Neighborhood and Emperor Guan Neighborhood), and some east-west streets (East Street, West Street, Baiyitang Street, and others), it was in a shape of scorpion.

With a long history, the Old Street Neighborhood has witnessed the development, progress and prosperity of Shenhou Town. Though it conveys a hint of sound and fury, you will be overwhelmingly impressed by its ethnical architectures and its serenity and peacefulness.

The buildings in the town most have high door sills and encircled yards, the walls of which are made of Xiabolong (a majority of people build walls with abandoned Xiabolong, a kind of ware to burn porcelain).

Tips: In the bevel top regions of the town, you can find the local traditional snacks, such as roasted beef, stewed mutton, baked and crisp fried foods and Shengmao Xian g Brand snacks.

The scenic spot has a convenient transportation.Yuzhou-Shenhou Road is a provincial Grade 2 tourist line. Zhengzhou, Xuchang, Luoyang, Zhoukou, Luohe, and Yuzhou Cities offer several daily buses to Shenhou Town respectively. There are 20 public buses shuttling between the town and the scenic spot.
