Xuange Terrace lies in the peaceful Nantan Lake. The splendid scenery here is dotted with flaming sun and green lotus leaves. Xuange Terrace is also called E Terrace, Jueliang Temple; it was made to memorize the thing that Confucius was trapped in Chencai and sang to the accompaniment of stringed instruments without end. The story is recorded in many books, such as Records of the Historian. Old and Well-known Family of Confucius, Han Ying's Illustrations of the Didactic Application of the Classic of Songs, Remarks of Confucius、Confucius Variorum, Anecdotes about Spirits and Immortals. Huaiyang is the place where Confucius taught people knowledge and abstained from food, so it is well-known across China. People established temple to teach their offspring to memorize the hardships of their ancestor.
The existing Xuange Terrace was rebuilt in the 48th year of the qianlong Emperor Period of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 A.D.).
