writing brush of Houdian, Hengshui

Writing brush of Houdian started to be produced in the second year of Yongle reign in the Ming Dynasty, and became prosperous in the Qing Dynasty. At the beginning period of Republic of China, the writing brushes which were sold in the famous writing brush stores, like Daiyuexuan writing brush store and Hukaiwen writing brush store, were mainly made in Houdian. At that time, Houtian people set up writing brush stores in Tianjin, Beijing, etc; besides, some Houdian people worked as helpers in the writing brush stores in the foreign lands; and there were nineteen workshops which made writing brushes in Houdian Village. The writing brush of Houdian has many advantages: it is modestly tough, soft and hard; it is not easy to cast off fur; and it can contain plenty of ink.
