Literary quotation: during the period of Daoguang’s reign in the Qing Dynasty, in Dawan of ancient Luojian (present Luohe), there was famine in successive years. The district magistrate of Shouzhou appointed a man surnamed Zheng as the head of the Luojian Shire. After Zheng proceeded to the new official post, he worked hard for common people and governed the shire well. He also encouraged the villagers to engage in farming and business and suggested on making bean cakes as commodities. Hence, at that time, the bean cake was in vogue in Luohe or whereabouts and had an influence far and near.
